The first Stoke-on-Trent Ceramics Festival will be staged at a number of city venues between September 16th and 18th. It will be the premier UK Ceramics Festival for 2005 and is already on target to become a major international event within the next four years.
Last year's Potters Market at The Gladstone Pottery Museum laid the foundations for the festival and brought together some of the best known figures currently working in contemporary studio pottery in this country. This first Festival is set to celebrate the art of ceramics still further by expanding to include more exhibitions, demonstrations and talks.
Visitors to the Festival will be treated to a vast array of factory tours, seminars, exhibitions and will be able to stock up on ceramics using special discounts at factory retail outlets.
Ken Barnes, CIF Design and Marketing Adviser explains “This event will provide the perfect opportunity for visitors to view not only the ceramics of the future through the RSA and Staffordshire University shows, but also to appreciate pieces made using more traditional methods.
“It's essential that this type of event is taking place, as it gives us the perfect opportunity to promote the diversity of ceramics and to celebrate our UK industry. We’ll even be encouraging visitors to have a go at ‘potting’ themselves and you never know, we might discover the ceramicists of the future”
